Read the Pride Community Center Bylaws
LATEST AMENDMENT: Section 3.01 - Qualification
Any person shall become an active member who: 1. Subscribes to the purposes of the Pride Center AND 2. Pays annual dues for membership or meets minimum volunteer hour requirements as determined by the Board of Directors. Active membership is maintained by certification of the above two requirements from December 1st of a given year to November 30th of the following year. Active membership is active for 365 days (December 1st of a given year to November 30th of the following year) after submitting payment for the membership year or completing the minimum volunteer hours set forth by the Board. Individuals with an active membership are eligible to vote at the Annual Meeting and any subsequent votes by the membership. Membership shall be granted regardless of age, gender expression, race, sexual orientation, nationality, religion, culture, color, income, lifestyle, occupation, condition of health, or physical or mental ability.
Bylaws are the internal rules that govern how a nonprofit organization operates, outlining key procedures such as how board members are elected, how decisions are made, what officers do, and how meetings are conducted. They serve as a foundational guide for accountability and transparency within the Pride Community Center of North Central Florida.
Members of the public may be interested in reading our bylaws to understand how the Pride Center is managed, ensure it follows fair and ethical practices, and confirm that its governance aligns with its mission and public commitments.
Our bylaws are composed of fifteen articles:
Article I - Identification: our identity as the Pride Center!
Article II - Purpose and Mission Statement: the purpose of the Pride Center’s work for the community, and our mission statement that defines our greater meaning and goals.
Article III - Membership: details of membership with the Pride Center.
Article IV - Membership Meetings: how public meetings involving members of the Pride Center are announced and conducted.
Article V - Board of Directors: information regarding the Pride Center’s Board of Directors, its composition, how it is installed, how it conducts business, and the term limits that directors must adhere to.
Article VI - Committees: an outline of the Pride Center’s Executive Committee, Nomination Committee, and other relevant committees—as well as their procedures.
Article VII - Officers: explanation of the Pride Center’s Executive Officers and their election, terms, duties, and succession.
Article VIII - Financial Affairs: financial disclosures, payments, and management of financial stores within the Pride Center.
Article IX - Fiscal Year: the Pride Center’s fiscal year is the same as the known calendar year, January 1 to December 31.
Article X - Amendments: how the Pride Center’s bylaws may be changed, as well as how said changes are announced to the public.
Article XI - Prohibited Activities: actions outlined by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) that any individual associated with the Pride Center are forbidden from practicing.
Article XII - Nonpartisan Activities: the Pride Center’s establishment as a non-partisan organization and the limits in which the Pride Center can be involved in public policy.
Article XIII - Indemnification: policies regarding the possible involvement of a director of the Pride Center in legal proceedings.
Article XIV - Handbook of Policies and Procedures: a statement of the most recent revision and adoption of the Pride Center’s bylaws.
